My last few days in Amman.

Last time you heard from me, I was trying to pull myself back together after having my spirit broken by the rude boys of downtown Amman... well, I did in fact get it together, had myself a nice couple of days alone in Jordan, and then hit the road.

Last Wednesday night, I followed through with my plan and went to Rainbow Street for dinner and a movie. After enjoying the food, drink, and free wi-fi at Books@
Cafe, a tourist hub within walking distance of my hostel, I went to the Royal Film Commission to catch a free screening of a Moroccan movie as part of Arab Film Week. Much to my surprise, the screening was under the stars and offered a breathtaking view of the city. (And the film, which was about a French woman's adjustment to living in the Arab world, was pretty wonderful, especially in light of my recent experiences.)

The next day, I walked to the National Gallery to see some of the Middle East's best contemporary art. I was able to see some absolutely beautiful paintings and sculptures, and relax in the museum's garden (where I found a fountain that was given to Amman by the city of Granada - how serendipitous!)

After meeting with a friend to finalize my plans for Istanbul, I went back to Rainbow Street, grabbed some ice cream, and caught the last night of Arab Film Week. They didn't turn on the subtitles this time, so I'm sure a lot was lost in translation, but it was still a lovely evening.

The next day, my friends Nicole and Candace returned from their trip to Cairo and joined me again at the hostel. I visited my host family that afternoon, and just spent the rest of the night relaxing, watching Midnight in Paris, and preparing for my departure to BETHLEHEM the next morning!
