Today was my first day of class, and it was a little rough.
The rest of the students are from Tijuana and are older than me, and my Spanish is definitely not up to academic par, so communication is a challenge. I was able to get the gist of what was going on during our three hour class, but I couldn't really participate in the discussion. Then, after we had lunch on-campus, we headed to downtown Tijuana, and my attempts at listening wore thin... it's exhausting hanging on someone's every word. I'm not entirely sure what was going on for the three or four hours we were down there, but we saw the cathedral, went into lots of candy and traditional medicine shops (who knew you could buy soap that would ward off the devil?), walked down a really cool little side street thing with lots of local art galleries/studios, and then went to the Casa del Migrante, which provides services for migrants recently deported from the U.S.
I know this will get better/easier, but I want it to do so now.
I do have to thank everyone for the lovely messages sent to me thus far. It's unbelievable how much love and support I have been blessed with. Reading them makes me a little emotional, but incredibly grateful and awed by the beauty in my life. Thank you.
I heard something scratching at my door, and it was a ferret.
