Home for a Holiday

Going home has been a rather bittersweet experience over this past year; I love seeing my family, friends, and the California sunshine, but it is also emotionally exhausting. When I'm here in Boston, I tend to idealize the concept of home, remembering only the good things I'm missing and ignoring the bad. In reality, of course, San Diego is not an idyllic paradise and, consequently, I am always slightly disappointed when I am forced to accept this. My home is not always a sanctuary and it is rarely problem-free but nevertheless, I am proud of my roots and feel lucky to be able to return to them. Spending time with my mom, dad, step-family, pups, brother, sister-in-law, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, family friends, camp buddy, and dearest amigas was such a treat and blessing. And I even had the chance to take a quick (and very cold!) dip into the ocean, so really, what more could I ask for? Here are some mementos from my beautiful but brief time in California:

My lovely niece Kadence

The pups:

Nico (the secret dog)

Baby Oscar

Queen Rosie

Abstract Expressionist painting of the Flower Fields at Vinaka - gorgeous!

Beach shots in Oceanside

Probably the nicest freeway drive in the country
